Equine therapy involves horse-related activities uniquely designed for people with cognitive, physical, emotional and social disabilities. Students of all ages learn horseback riding skills and basic horse care while receiving many benefits such as: improved balance, mobility, muscle tone, coordination and posture, enhanced independence and increased concentration and self-esteem. Riding therapy has proven to be a highly motivational and enriching therapeutic and educational modality for students to set aside their crutches, wheelchairs and disabilities as they settle into the saddle.
We need to start by building the dining hall, children’s vocational training center, and dormitory facility for children with disabilities. We hope to work with children on both sides of the border because of our location, the twenty-five mile area between Eagle Pass and Del Río, Texas. We could feasibly serve children from as far east as San Antonio and as far west as the interior of Mexico, provided the children can get the proper documents to come across the border. We estimate 100,000 children could be helped with such a program.
This building will offer nutrition classes, physical therapy rooms and a movie room. Along with a large dining room, laundry room, and parent training room. All this will be offered to provide the best care for the children who will also be taking part in the riding program across the street at the riding ranch. This will benefit children on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border region.
